Week 10
Week 10
Its week ten and I've registered for graduation. It seems so unreal. It feels like yesterday that we were all meeting for the first time in ED 250.
This week I've been reviewing all the footage from my videos for the Task 2 Instruction Commentary. I didn't realize how much footage I had until I sat down to watch it all. I must say watching yourself is very helpful. I've noticed the things I've done wrong and what I've done right. I believe my proudest moment was watching the video and watching myself redirect a student and get him back on task. you may think that this sounds so easy but it wasn't for me. I'm used to handling adults and not children. I do have a son, but it is so different working with students rather than your own child.
In clinical this week we have had a rough week. At recess one of my students was rough housing with another. They got into it and we had to separate them. One of the boys is an IEP student and involved in our behavior management program. He decided that he was going to leave school. He marched across the playground into the football field and made his way toward the gate. My CE and another 3rd grade teacher were hot on his tail. My CE is used to dealing with his rage episodes and knows that he doesn't respond to anyone if their being stern. The more the other teacher yelled at him the quicker he moved toward the gate. I was heading around the other side to cut him off at the gate. I was saying things to him like; "Please, don't leave and lets talk about this. It wasn't working he continued to walk away. My CE talked him done by being direct by yet still very caring. It was kind of like how you would talk to your own child, your in trouble but I still love you ( not the exact words but you get the picture) When he came back inside my CE had to write up the incident. The assistant principle came to speak with him and he was given a day in ISS. I feel like ISS and OSS just gets lost on kids this age, but there must be consequences for their actions.
This week for my outside research I've looked into a few things. First I looked up some of the most frequently asked HOT questions. I found them helpful with my Science Through Your Lens project. For my collaborative leadership project I researched school activities that may help my school involve my parents for our school. We have very little parent involvement in our school. At our Pep Rally this week we had six parents. The school has almost four hundred students and six parents is a very small parent presence. The school improvement plan focuses on getting the community more involved. Our school is going to throw a block party next month. If the parents wont come to the school then the school will have to go to the parents.
In science this week I was happy to complete my hyperdoc and the Science Through My Lens project. I just wish I had more time to spend on it. I've had to juggle my responsibilities this semester a lot. I think if I had a little more time it would have been so much better.
This weeks standards that apply to my blog are; Standard 1: Teachers demonstrate leadership. This applies will trying to improve our schools relationship with the community. Standard 2: Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students. I would think this applies to our IEP student and his attempt to leave the school grounds. The teachers were able to get him back to school safely.

Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI was also happy to turn in the assignments for Science. I was pleased with how both of them turned out though like you I wish I had been able to spend more time on them especially the hyperdoc.
It is to bad that not many of your parents showed up for the pep rally. I was disappointed that most of my CE's classroom did not show up for open house last Thursday. I only saw three students from my CE's room for the presentation.
I love your quote at the end from Gandhi. What a good lesson we can learn by thinking of others rather than ourselves.
I hope this next week goes good for you, Chris.
